Therese Nachtigall was born in Nuremberg on August 8, 1869, the daughter of the hop dealer Hermann Nachtigall and his wife Klara. In 1891 she married Karl Treumann, who was eight years her senior. The couple lived in Bamberg where they had two children – their son Martin was born on May 29, 1892 and their daughter Doris on October 31, 1895. Karl Treumann ran the hop dealership M. Treumann & Sohn. In 1926 he moved first his place of residence and two years later the seat of the firm to Munich. After her husband’s death in 1930, Therese Treumann lived from October 1931 until mid-January 1933 in Nuremberg before moving to live with her daughter Doris at Hamhauserstrasse18 (today 2) in Munich. Doris was married to the lawyer Dr. Martin Flaschner and had two children, Hanna and Heinrich.
The life of the Jewish family changed radically when the Nazis seized power. Therese Treumann will also have experienced the exclusion of Jewish people. The premature death of her son-in-law Martin Flaschner on March 14, 1934 was certainly a heavy blow for the whole family. Therese Treumann died just under two years later on March 3, 1936 at the age of 66.
Her daughter Doris, her grandson Heinrich and her granddaughter Anneliese, the daughter of her son Martin Treumann, were deported to the Piaski Ghetto by the Secret State Police (Gestapo) on April 4, 1942. All traces of them are lost there. Martin Treumann survived the Shoah. Her granddaughter Hanna Flaschner was also able to escape extermination and later lived in Australia. (Text: B.
