Johann Baptist Huber was born in Alzgern near Altötting in 1892. His parents were farmers. Johann Baptist Huber studied philosophy and theology in Passau and Munich. In 1915, he volunteered as a soldier and fought in the First World War. In 1921, Johann Baptist Huber was ordained as a priest in Passau, and in 1932 he became parish priest of Landau an der Isar.

From the outset, he opposed National Socialism and campaigned for the preservation of religious education and Catholic associations. As a result, Pastor Johann Baptist Huber was threatened and persecuted by the Nazis, he was banned from speaking at official gatherings. In 1942, the Gestapo arrested him for sending field post letters with Catholic pastoral messages to soldiers and brought him to the Dachau concentration camp. He fell seriously ill due to an injury sustained during forced labour and the devastating conditions in the camp. On 8 September 1942, the terminally ill priest was transferred to the Munich-Schwabing hospital, where Pastor Johann Baptist Huber died on 13 September 1942.

On 15 October 2025, a memorial service for Pastor Johann Baptist Huber was held in Landau an der Isar. The mayor of Landau, Matthias Kohlmayer, spoke about the significance of the first Memorial Sign in Landau. Munich City Councillor Winfried Kaum welcomed those present on behalf of Lord Mayor Dieter Reiter. Contemporary witness Pauline Vogl shared her memories of Pastor Huber. City archivist Manfred Niedl read the biography of Pastor Johann Baptist Huber. Afterwards, the Memorial Sign dedicated to Pastor August Lindmeier was consecrated on the forecourt of Stadtpfarrkirche St. Maria.

Since 2018, the city of Munich has installed over 300 Memorial Signs to commemorate the people who were persecuted, displaced and murdered by the Nazis. The first Memorial Sign outside of Munich was erected in Ingolstadt in 2020, followed shortly afterwards by Memorial Signs in Oldenburg. Landau an der Isar is now the fourth town to commemorate the victims of the Nazis using Memorial Signs.
