Gustav Wiener studied medicine in Munich, Tübingen and Breslau. From 1903, he was a doctor with a private practice in Munich, initially with a practice in Maximilianstrasse, later with his own practice in Kaufingerstrasse. In 1912, Dr Gustav Wiener married Babette Müller, who was not Jewish. In 1932, the couple moved into a spacious flat on Odeonsplatz.
Just a few weeks after the National Socialists came to power, SA and SS men stormed the flat at the end of March 1933, vandalised the flat and practice, and brutally abused Dr Gustav Wiener. Dr Gustav Wiener never recovered; after a long stay in hospital, he died of his severe injuries in November 1933.
On 24 May 2022, a memorial service for Dr Gustav Wiener was held in the event hall of the Bavarian State Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry. Afterwards, a memorial sign for Dr Gustav Wiener was placed at his former place of residence at Odeonsplatz 1.
