Franz Stenzer was a member of parliament of the KPD (the Communist Party of Germany) in the Reichstag. After joining the KPD in 1920, he first became a workers'councillor and later a city councillor for Pasing before being elected to the Reichstag in 1932.
After the Nazis came to power, Franz Stenzer had to go into hiding, but was arrested by the Gestapo after just a few weeks and brought to the Dachau concentration camp. There he was severely tortured and murdered on 22 August 1933.
In honour of Franz Stenzer, a memorial service was held on Tuesday, 22 August 2023 at his former home at Nimmerfallstraße 50-58 (formerly Friedrich-Ebert-Straße 1c).
In addition to Dr Gabriele Hammermann from the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial, City Councillor Stefan Jagel, representing the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich, and Daniel Heimerl, Chairman and Managing Director of Gemeinnützige Wohnungsgenossenschaft München-Pasing eG, also spoke.
After the installation of the memorial sign for Franz Stenzer, a greeting by Franz Stenzer's granddaughter Tatjana Trögel was read out, and the initiator of the memorial sign, Church Councillor Dr Björn Mensing from the Evangelische Versöhnungskirche at the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, spoke, followed by Frieder Vogelsgesang from District Committee 21 - Pasing-Obermenzing. Nico Weber accompanied the memorial service for Franz Stenzer with music on the trumpet.
