Memorial Sign for Dr. Paul Franz Wassermann, Fraunhoferstr. 26

Dr. Paul Franz Wassermann, owner of a factory, had already converted from the Jewish religion to Catholicism in 1916, and joined the Freikorps Epp in 1920. Despite his national conservative beliefs, he had to give up his appartement in 1937 and was forced to sell his factory in 1938. In 1941 the Gestapo deported him to Kaunas, where the SS shot him on 25 November 1941.

On Sunday, 20 November 2022, a commemorative event for Dr Paul Franz Wassermann was held at the Theater im Fraunhofer. Speakers included Hannah Sibylle Wennekers, the initiator of the memorial sign as well as co-initiator Dr Bernhard Schoßig, city councillor Dr. Florian Roth, representing the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich, and Dr Andreas Heusler, from the Institute for City History and Remembrance Culture.

A message from Dr Paul Franz Wassermann's great-niece, Margie Bone, was read, followed by letters from Dr Wassermann to his brother in the USA. Eva Tyrell on the cello and Johannes Trägner-Born gave a musical performance.

Afterwards, the memorial sign for Dr. Paul Franz Wassermann was placed near his former residence at Fraunhoferstraße 26.
