Memorial Signs for Irma Hecht, Eugen Doernberger, and Hermann Raff,
Ohmstraße 13

Irma Hecht moved to Munich in 1901 and attended a grammar school here, after which she studied at the University of Munich. She worked as a private teacher of ancient languages and as a research assistant. In November 1941, the Gestapo deported Irma Hecht to Kaunus, where she was murdered shortly after her arrival.

Dr med. Eugen Doernberger studied medicine in Munich. He worked as a ship's doctor during the First World War and treated the wounded during the battles for the Soviet Republic in Munich in 1919. He worked as a doctor for the municipal education and health authorities and in social work for the Jewish Community. Dr Eugen Doernberger died in Munich in 1938.

Dr jur. Hermann Raff studied law in Munich and Erlangen and specialised in commercial and property law. In 1936, he moved to Füssen with his wife to escape the constant persecution. As he was married to a non-Jewish woman, Dr Hermann Raff was not deported. He died in Füssen in 1943.

On 7 November 2022, a memorial event for Irma Hecht, Dr Eugen Doernberger and Dr Hermann Raff took place at Café Reitschule. Speakers included Mayor Katrin Habenschaden and Dr Charlotte Knobloch, President of the Jewish Community of Munich and Upper Bavaria, as well as Jan Fischer, initiator of the project ‘Making Jewish life in Ohmstraße visible’ and Dr Matthias Georgi from Neumann & Kamp Historical Projects. Pupils from the Oskar-von-Miller-Gymnasium read out the life stories and Dr Peter Troberg spoke on behalf of the relatives. The closing speech was given by Lauren Kathryn Day, Global Head of Group Communications and Reputation, Allianz SE. The Memorial Signs for Dr Eugen Doernberger, Dr Hermann Raff and Irma Hecht were then placed at their former place of residence at Ohmstraße 13.
