On 16 October 2024, a memorial service for Alexander Schmorell will take place at the Albert Einstein Gymnasium. In addition to Dr Ludwig Spaenle, Bavarian State Government Commissioner for Jewish Life and Against Anti-Semitism, for Remembrance Work and Historical Heritage, Dr Hildegard Kronwitter, First Chairwoman of the Weiße Rose Stiftung e.V., and Markus Schmorell will speak on behalf of the family. Afterwards, a Memorial Sign for Alexander Schmorell will be placed at Schmorellplatz.

Born in Russia, Alexander Schmorell grew up in Munich, where he met his friend Christoph Probst at the Neues Realgymnasium. As a medical student, he was drafted into the Wehrmacht, where he met Hans Scholl as a medical sergeant. In the summer of 1942, they wrote the first four leaflets of the resistance group ‘Die Weiße Rose’ together. After the medical students witnessed German war crimes on the Eastern Front, they expanded the circle of those involved in active resistance after their return, and Sophie Scholl, Willi Graf, Prof Kurt Huber and Christoph Probst became part of the Weiße Rose. Alexander Schmorell was arrested in February 1943, sentenced to death in April 1943 and murdered in Munich-Stadelheim in July 1942.
