Memorial event for Richard Burger

Richard Burger grew up in Graz, Austria, and moved to Munich to work as a director for Arthur Fischer company in 1902. In 1910, he married Laura Fischer, the daughter of the company owner. They had three daughters. In 1925, Richard Burger registered a business representing textile goods, and in 1932 the family moved to Auenstraße. After the National Socialists seized power, the family was attacked by Hitler Youth. During the ‘Kristallnacht’, the Gestapo deported him to the Dachau concentration camp, where Richard Burger was murdered by the SS on 18 November 1938.

On Friday, 10 June 2022, a memorial service for Richard Burger was held at ‘Das Josef’. Stephan Maria Alof, churchwarden of the Catholic parish of St Maximilian Munich, opened the event, followed by city councillor Roland Hefter, representing the Lord Mayor of the City of Munich, and Albert Knoll from the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Jan Rybar, Richard Burger's grandson, and Philip Klein, a great-grandson of Richard Burger, also spoke. Benoît Blaser, Chairman of the Ludwigvorstadt-Isarvorstadt District Committee, gave the closing speech.

Afterwards, the Memorial Sign for Richard Burger was placed on his former home at Auenstraße 52.
